Picnic Set
This fine Japanese lacquer picnic set was crafted during the late 19th/early 20th century. The set comprises a carrying case in black lacquer with gilt lacquer decoration, 2 bottles (one restored), one shallow tray, one tray, one shallow box with cover, and one 4-compartment box. The set is in very good condition: the carrying case measures a total 11.5 inches height by 12.75 inches width by 7.25 inches depth.

Tray with Peacock Decoration
This exquisite gold and brown lacquer tray was made in Japan during the Meiji Period during the late 19th century. The tray is narrow quatrefoil form and features relief lacquer decoration on the central panel of two peacocks in front of a flowering tree. The tail of the male peacock is adorned with inlaid shell medallions. The gallery of the tray is decorated with an elaborate scroll motif in brown and gold lacquer. An artisan's signature appears on the underside. The tray measures 11.75 inches height by 7.75 inches width.

Box with Inlaid Tsuba
This lovely rectangular box with its fitted cover are highly unusual in their decoration. The box and cover feature black lacquered exterior surfaces further decorated with inlaid Tsuba and other traditional Japanese sword fittings. The interior features speckled lacquer surfaces. The decoration is quite remarkable in that several of the sword fittings were cut to overlap from the cover to the body of the box when closed. The box measures a total 9 5/8 inches length by 7 3/4 inches width by 5 inches height.

A circular lacquer storage box with interior and exterior covers. A two-tone floral relief pattern highlighted by a bow is the main attraction. The interior is a speckled landscape of a volcano. The piece comes with its own custom wooden carton. The box itself measures 5.75 inches diameter.

The cover features a stylized floral pattern with mother-of-pearl inlay on rust speckled background. The cover interior picture depicts three butterflies in flight. The box interior is separated by compartments and a small inkwell. The total length is 9.5 inches.
