Cloisonné is a term that refers to any enameled piece wherein fields of enamel color are set against a piece of metal within specific areas outlined with wires. Cloisonné-style techniques were first used in China during the Ming Dynasty and developed further in the creation of beautiful decorative and functional objects through the Qing Dynasty.

Pair of Chinese Cloisonné Enamel Birds

These birds are composed of metal, though nearly all of the surfaces of these two are enameled, except for the molded feet. The bodies are decorated with Cloisonné style enamel in White, Blue, Black, Green and Red. The artisan who created them created many very small fields using Cloisonné wire to represent the textures created by the feathers of the animals. Each bird measures approximately 7 inches length by 5.5 inches height.
