The art of ivory carving in China developed as a strong artistic tradition during the Late Ming Dynasty and continued into the Qing Dynasty. Though access to ivory material is now limited due to trade restrictions, the antique pieces that remain offer insight into this art form and the subjects that were important to Chinese craftspeople in the past.
For more hand-carved works of art, we suggest our Japanese Okimono and Netsuke pages and please feel free to browse our Hartman Rare Art Ebay Store.
